Martin Stevens:
His Book

An Augments Autobiography
Edited by Luman Coad

Martin and Olga Stevens were pioneers in puppet theatre for adults. In 1934 they created a marionette production of The Passion Play. Then followed The Nativity, Cleopatra, and Joan of Arc. They were instrumental in the life of the Puppeteers of America. After many tumultuous years, they were divorced and Steve married Margi Kelly. Under their direction, up to six troupes simultaneously toured the country.
Some years after Martin Stevens died, his uncompleted hand-written autobiography was discovered in his abandoned and vandalized studio-home. Luman Coad has reconstructed the missing years and included memories of twenty people who knew, admired, and were influenced
by this giant of American puppetry. Forward by Jay Marshall. Numerous photographs.
